Chileda is a classroom, a playground, and a comprehensive treatment center. However
most
importantly, Chileda is a place that children and young adults can call "home".
Chileda's campus includes four duplexes along with an administrative center housing
our school and indoor recreational areas. Access to community parks, stores, movie
theaters, and restaurants are conveniently located within minutes of the campus,
providing opportunities for students to practice and refine social, leisure, and
academic skills in a variety of settings.
To encourage personal growth and development, students who live at Chileda reside
in a home setting that promotes
interaction between peers and staff; Self-care skills such as hygiene, eating, bathroom etiquette, and domestic skills are taught individually. Students reside in one of, eight residences with up to five peers, and with many of the same comforts found in any home: bedrooms that
are decorated by the student,
a kitchen dining area, bathrooms, a living room,
and laundry facilities.
Each of our four duplexes has a shared office area for the staff support team. Our
staff support team at Chileda includes an assigned Case Manager who is focused on
issues of advocacy and community connections through on-going contact with parents,
guardians and social workers. A House Manager is assigned to manage the deployment
and training of the house staff. Each of these professional level managers work
collaboratively with all aspects of the Chileda team to insure engaging and enriching
programming occurs across all areas of the student's day.
